When Sequenom, a life sciences company, was considering opening up a new genetic analysis research facility and lab, Research Triangle Park was on the short list of locations that were being considered. Davis Moore was engaged to help them determine the best sites for its unique real estate needs.

01. The Issue

The important goals for the project included finding a business environment where an adequate and educated workforce was available, and a facility that was not only business friendly but could also handle the “clean room” environment that would be required for this new operation.

02. The Solution

The Davis Moore principals were engaged and involved with setting up all aspects of this transaction from introductions to the Department of Commerce, to engaging the project management, design, and contractor team, and ultimately, to finding the best facility. By the end of this process, Sequenom was able to secure an existing facility with a landlord familiar with the unique needs of a Life Science company.

03. The Benefit

The facility had been leased but unoccupied for several years and through a three (3) party negotiation, Sequenom was able to get many of the financial benefits of a sublease while mitigating the risk that typically accompanies subleases. Overall, Sequenom was able to secure a high quality facility with extensive infrastructure in a desirable part of RTP.
